"One day, inspired by Buddhist kindness, Basho cleverly modified a cruel haiku composed by his humorist disciple, Kikaku. The letter had written:
'A red dragon fly,
Tear off its wings,
A pimento!'
Basho modified this to:
'A pimento!
Add wings to it, Lo!
A red dragonfly!'
